Addo Elephant Park Situated in a malaria free area just one hour's drive from Port Elizabeth, this finely tuned ecosystem is sanctuary to over 450 elephants, Cape buffalo, a variety of antelope species, as well as the unique flightless dung beetle, found almost exclusively in Addo.

It is also South Africa's first Big 7 game reserve.. As well as the usual Big Five: - rhino, lion, elephant, leopard and buffalo, the park, which extends to the sea and some offshore islands, also offers sightings of southern right whales and (great) white sharks. Addo's birding opportunity covers excellent habitat contrast between dense thickets of Spekboom interspersed with open grassy areas and wooded kloofs (particularly in the Zuurberg region).
ElephantsAre up to 7.5m in length and 4m high, a fully grown adult can weigh up to 7 tonnes. A 6 year old elephant will weigh about 1 tonne, growth in elephants slows at around 15 years of age, however they continue to grow throughout there life. Both males and females have tusks in African elephants and they have 3 nails on the hindfoot. Whilst the Asian elephant have tusks on the males only, and they have four toes on the hind feet
